Wild Child: Rillo Talk (apollo x's waiting for the rave remix)
For several years, apollo x has been DJing around Austin. His 90's-influenced sets have helped him open for dance pop icons Crystal Waters, Erasure, and Robin S. In fact, those influences, and others can be seen in his music.
In 2014, he decided to crossover from DJ to producer. Drawing heavily from the golden era of house, his tracks are influenced by soulful 90s house producers like Little Louie Vega, Kenny Dope Gonzales, and Armand Van Helden. But that doesn't mean they're just throwbacks. He's also heavily influenced by current UK deep house producers like Huxley or artists on California's own Dirtybird Records.
For this official remix, he worked with Austin hipster folk band Wild Child to transform their slow summer track to a dance floor-ready anthem. The ukele was replaced by a casio keyboard. He added some big bass lines, moody chords, and an electric piano to give it that old school, diva house flavor.
This spring apollo x will be releasing a Chicago-influenced debut EP. Until then, he's remixing several Austin artists for his ATX RMX series--and may have some big-name remixes coming soon.
