[PREMIERE] Vallis Alps: Young (Spencer Ludwig Trumpet Edit)
We've grown a fond appreciation for singer/songwriter/trumpeter, Spencer Ludwig's rare talent in both his main band, Capital Cities, and countless side projects throughout the indie world. He has set forth an ambitious plan to release one "trumpet edit" a month of the #1 song on the Hypem popular charts from the previous month. We are honored to exclusively premiere the first in this monthly series on Kick Kick Snare and WE FOUND NEW MUSIC.
Spencer has come with a mission, to reinvent the trumpet and the trumpet player in pop music. As he's working on his indie/electro/trumpet-pop solo record he wanted these trumpet edit releases to highlight the potential of the trumpet in pop music and to hint at what his solo record will sound like. Spencer shared the following. "In my mind there is always a place for the trumpet no matter what genre of music so I'm challenging myself to implement it into each months #1 track on hypem to stress it's relevance and potential in the indie/EDM world. I love indie dance music and I love the trumpet and I see no reason why the two should not become one beyond the trumpet just playing the hook of the song. I hope this inspires other instrumentalists to take pride and ownership over their skill and to think beyond just "playing the parts."
We (along with the rest of the music blogosphere) were enamored with Vallis Alps' "Young" off their self titled debut EP, which managed to make its way quickly to the #1 spot on the Hype Machine in January of this year. Here, Spencer has managed to effortlessly integrate his trumpet as the main focus without loosing the beauty and essence of the original. Check back next month for the second installment of Spencer Ludwig's Trumpet Edits.
Listen to a brief commentary with WE FOUND NEW MUSIC on the Trumpet Edit project, and tune in this Friday as Spencer is our band of the week.
